Blood Calves?

Due to the proliferation of "fan pages" and individuals who take wandering animal class links (calves, bulls, llamas, etc.) and use a hacking tool to convert them to post themselves, we are asking all members of Sharing Foals and Calves who wish to post calves to use a link shortening service, such as http://bit.ly or http://tinyurl.com to shorten your calf links before posting them in the group.

Actually, it's a good idea to do this when you post ANY calf, because they're being taken and converted by many people lately.

NOBODY Legitimately Acquires THIS many calves to share in this timeframe. Nobody.

While this doesn't prevent people from taking your links and re-appropriating them as something else, it does make it a lot more difficult (and we hope, therefore, not worth the effort).

If you're a member of Sharing Foals and Calves, and we determine that you're 'grabbing' links to repost elsewhere in this manner, rest assured your membership days are quite limited.

We insist on maintaining absolute integrity on each and every post we have appear on our group wall, and in order to do this we must insist that links share on our wall stay there.

We at Sharing Foals and Calves believe very much that people should be allowed to play 'their game, their way', however those who are taking links for these animals and converting them using a hack tool are not engaging in a 'victimless' activity.  If you want to convert your animals, go have fun with that - this is being presented to inform others so that they can decide for themselves how to deal with the issue of 'converted' links.

For example, if your Dairy Barn produces a wonderful little Disco Calf, and you want to share this with the group (or even on your wall - people can 'take' these links from anywhere they see them), the moment you post it that link is available to share out 10 calves.

If someone takes a copy of your link, converts it with this hacking tool, and re-posts it as, for example, a 'Robot Calf' (on their page or elsewhere), when people collect that converted calf, it depletes the original Disco Calf that you shared.

This means it's entirely possible (and very likely) that the work you completed by creating and sharing the original Disco Calf is being taken and re-shared by others, and what you originally intended as a calf for your friends and neighbors is now GONE.

And you wonder why nobody says thanks anymore?  Could be because your links are being sucked dry by someone converting them.

This calf?  NOT Generated by the person who posted it. Also note that it's NOT a FarmVille posting, even though this Indonesian website is using Zynga's images and verbiage to simulate a legitimate FarmVille posting.

While many of us don't share for the 'credit', those you see sharing these links are definitely becoming more popular with their 'ability' to create the most rare calves available (assuming you call the ability to cut and paste a link into a hacking tool true 'ability').

Does this mean that everyone who posts a 'converted' calf link is 'stealing' links from others? No.  They could simply be converting their own calf shares (or bulls, llamas or any other 'wandering' class animals) that they generate?

Does this mean that someone you see generating a high number of these is taking the links of others to generate these calves?  You betcha.

Does this mean that fan pages are reappropriating links of others to draw traffic and fans to their own site, and providing zero credit to the original posters? Yep.

Does this mean that people who use the hack tool to convert and post rare calves are in violation of Zynga's Terms of Service?  You bet.  They do so at their own risk.

At best, it's unethical gameplay, and those who post the links of others are doing so at the expense of the original poster.  At worst, it's the exact type of activity which will cause Zynga to react as they have by imposing the recently enacted 125 item collection limit.  Do you really want MORE limits placed on your gaming?

Sharing Foals and Calves suggests that you protect the integrity of the game and your calf posts by using a link shortener before posting.

Happy Farming!
